Hon. Carl Butkus Second Judicial District Court

Education:

Judge Butkus received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and he received his law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1977.

Work history:

Judge Butkus was appointed to the bench in 2005. Prior to his appointment, he served as a law clerk for Judge Hendley at the New Mexico Court of Appeals and then was in private practice from 1978 to 2005.  At least some of that time was spent at Civerolo, a local defense firm that over the years has produced a number of judges.

Judge Butkus began his career as a District Judge handling criminal cases; however, he handles primarily civil cases now. He is a past chair of the Supreme Court Rules of Civil Procedure Committee.

Judge Butkus was appointed by Gov. Richardson in 2005.  I have not found the exact date.
